Project Open Hand
Inspired by work of mine in a Communication Arts photography annual, an art director called. She was designing a fund-raising brochure, pro bono, for Project Open Hand in San Francisco. She asked me to do the photography. I was honored, and also agreed to work pro bono.
At that time, Open Hand provided food and comfort to people with HIV and AIDS — people like Doris and her son Jared, in the photograph at left. This photograph also later appeared in a Communication Arts photography annual.
Since then, Open Hand has expanded its mission, and now also helps homebound people who are over 60 or have critical illnesses.
